For new players, my suggestion may not be an alternative, but it may be for some of the more experienced ones. They simply look for a priest of their choice in one of the many locations with a priest and portal. They can be transported through him once, and from now on, the respawn point in case of death is always right at that priest and not in Haven at the spawn. It may sound a bit complicated, but at least it gives the player an extra teleportation point in return.
I know we'll have this handled at some point but choosing a priest should be available sooner rather than later.
I also strongly disagree with catering (overly so) to the lowest denominator such as terribly out-dated clients and such like ridiculously bad internet connections and the like... I think it would be best to give players a reason to keep up-to-date clients as it benefits everybody, but this isn't about the software, just getting to pick a priest so you can die in peace lol
