So far the falling block mechanic caused quite a bit of problems. Please discuss here whether YL should get rid of falling blocks altogether and convert them into "normal" or other blocks. "other" could be that sand is more modeled like a liquid.
Pro:
Con:
If you don't have ropes, you can use them to safely climb down, by dropping enough of them down, then standing on the tower and digging down.
There are probably other clever uses for this mechanic...
During our nether exploration at ARC and using "never seen by any mob" tactic, falling nodes were essential for building downwards.
Not removing.
I vote not to remove the falling mechanic for sand, gravel, or snow
Convert them into normal block when they are placed by player in protected area.
That normal blocks would be new node (so if someone is local_map_saving of their own buildings it would be not falling node again in their world).
eg. in protected land, on place default:sand -> mod:sand2 and on dig you'll get back default:sand
I'd suggest adding a special variant of each falling node that is the exact same except doesn't have the falling mechanic.
open bugs that'd be fixed if we removed falling nodes entirely:
there may be more
Great idea, but would be hard to apply to the world.
