It's a tragedy. You have a small herd of three biome cows. Suddenly, there are four. One must be a mime. But which ones? All of them have 20 health points and already one of them is dead, killed by the mime. The next one is my sword. Ah, I slew my own cow! What a drama, quickly catch the last one with the lasso...
You can use node inspection tool on mobs, and I believe most mobs have a heal mechanism not sure if biome cows do and what it is but if you want to do that with use of a node inspection tool I am sure it could work against your problem
Alternatively if they are tamed pick all of them up then kill remaining
The biome cow that cannot be caught with a lasso ... that's the mimic.
Apart from that, sounds like the mimic works as expected?
What's the issue and how can we solve it?
The cow is for a very short moment red colored if it will be hurt (by a mimic). It should be red all the time until I feed it again healthy.
Perhaps we need guard dogs that attack mimes so that our animals can be safe.
are these biome cows protected w/ a rune? i swear i already informed mimes that they shouldn't target such mobs in another issue? mimes targeting "wild" mobs is intended behavior.
Ok, ok I guess I'll have to deal more with these two runes...
The one that don't say who is the owner is fake
Before one of them has told you that, one of them is already dead. The survivor is the fake.
Unreliable if the biome cow isn't tamed since both it and mimes share 20 health. Best way to test is right click it and see if it attacks you. Alternatively try and see if it exhibits movement that a mime cannot.
the node inspection tool will also tell you what the mob is.
Yep and that's why we have mimics. They are intended to behave like that.
mimes are intended to kill unprotected mobs. tamed mobs should not be considered reliable.
For whatever reason, the protection runes of mobs_redo don't work the way I thought they would.
protection rune level 1: Protects against players hitting mobs owned by other players
protection rune level 2: Like 1, but additionally protects against projectiles of mobs
There is NO mobs_redo mechanic that protects against other mobs killing animals.
Here's the code of the on_punch:
https://gitea.your-land.de/your-land/mobs_redo/src/branch/master/api.lua#L2754
Just for the records. Since whole Rubodyke is protected and via spawnit just friendly mobs there (and some forgotten old mimics), only wolfes and bears are there a little bit dangerous. So I am happy how it is now.
they're not supposed to attack protected mobs:
e0168000fa/core/mob.lua (L111-L113)
if they are, that's a problem.
EDIT: see #4131
