Fast travel between bases #4782

I've set up a new base in a remote location and I am now exploring ways of setting up some fast way to move myself and supplies across bases. First base is relatively close to airship (1-2 km), but the second is more than 20km far from nearest fast travel. And you are limited to one home location.

Would it be possible to perhaps have more than one home under some conditions?

Or some other way to travel fast across your areas?

Or alternatively, what would be needed to set up one of current fast travel methods - ship or airship in vicinity of my new base?

Not all, I'd like to have presence in both bases. But tp tubes will be useful for moving supplies, will need to get the mesemaker first ...

what about airship destination? most are in cities, but some are in non-city locations, like zoo or that huge arena near sw corner ... what would be needed to set up new destination nearby?

but you can have it in a city ... and you can found one sufficiently close (like 1 km). Although not every city har air/ship destination, for example walstrand has none. I've seen also few non-city destinations, so I'm wondering if there is a simpler way than founding a city.

one thing that's not been discussed, is temporary airship locations. perhaps the airship could hover over your area for a while, similarly to how it hovers near the battle royale arena. once you're done moving, it'd leave the area.

Perhaps there can be a vote for temporary airship locations, with a limited number of slots available? If there is a temporary airship location, is it up to the destination to provide the airship or will it be supplied by staff?

The few non-city destinations (Battle Royale Area and Zoo) aren't private settlements either though. They fall under a special category. I can't name it really but they are basically destinations that are of use for everyone. Having an airship at your private settlement wouldn't be of use for everyone, it would just be to your own advantage which is not the purpose of the airship and sailship line.

Temporary Airship destinations might be worth a thought but I anticipate that then a lot of people would want to make use of those, which would just end up in being even more work for staff. Unless a certain set of rules will be set that minimize the usecases for such destinations.

Temporary airship locations were in the initial draft of the airship system, but with the lags we had back then, the idea was scrapped. It was a too manual thing that needed a lot of thought and balancing and had great potential for abuse.

A user (or group of users) would have payed for a temporary stop of the airship. Plan was to be 99 gold for 3 days. The players would have to provide a reasonable tower where the airship could dock, then staff would copy in an airship or a smaller climber and of course the NPC to access it.

To make it perfectly clear: This is not in the game and there are no intentions to add it.

Maybe do it without WEing airship? Or just spawning a smaller one created using an entity?

So basically, if I want some fast travel location closer than the current closest one with 20km distance, the only option is to found a city nearby and get the airship or ship there?

With "set home" and "home" buttons being close to each other, the chance of accidentally hitting the wrong one (especially on mobile) is ... not zero :)

And walking 20km again to set your home properly is quite a big penalty for single misclick.

Use the map: https://dev777.github.io/YourMap/#
If you know what's nearby, you usually don't need an extra connection anymore.

That map does not list any fast travel options I already do not know of (there is not that much air/ship destinations) ... plus the nearest fast travel listed on it is 37 km apart .... i know better one with "only" slightly over 20 km distance (catapult)

I mean that's really on you for chosing a place to live at that is that far from an airship or sailship connection, if such a connection matters so much to you.

And founding a city is not the only way to get fast travel (which isn't the purpose of a city anyways). You could use a death portal but that could become expensive over time. Or simply use an alt to transfer stuff.

i still think teleport tubes, possibly w/ an alt for the receiving end, is probably the best option. i know other players use that method effectively to move lots of items from one place to another.
