i'm fairly certain upie has been warned to be careful w/ whips and lag in the past.

You can only be so careful. Sometimes the lag gets extreme, and it's not possible to tell in advance when exactly that'll happen and how intense.

there's some discussion in #1575 where alias stated he didn't want the balrog whip to become "unbreakable" or have otherwise different mechanics, though there are plans to rework tool repair at some point.

You can only be so careful. Sometimes the lag gets extreme, and it's not possible to tell in advance when exactly that'll happen and how intense.

i don't think i've broken a whip in the last year, and i use it all the time. upie probably just forgot how bad the lag can get, he hasn't been around too much of late.
