If I remember, there may be an issue with this, related to gravel's "falling" mechanic. Perhaps the slabs just don't fall?
Iamgine adding a one cubic meter to a table saw. The result is most likely not two slabs, but a shotgun like effect :D Lucky this is only a game.
Rule of thumb: snappy and cracky blocks may go into the saw, crumbly not so much.
Then again, this slab-behaviour reminds me of the snow behaviour. And if you add a slab to a slab, it should morph into na full block.
Result of adding them to the saw:
You can't actually use the saw to cut gravel (i don't understand why?) but the nodes still exist (you can summon them w/
/giveme
), and still fall like gravel.I like the idea of making "leveled" versions of snow and gravel better than adding a saw recipe, though.
for reference, this exists:
https://content.minetest.net/packages/lazerbeak12345/falling_stairs/
also, advanced_trains has gravel slopes, which look decent and make sense logically, i'm not sure whether they fall or whether they have to be placed on top of nodes.
This has been bothering me for a while now, too. Just now I could need them for a new build. I do understand that cutting gravel with a slab doesn't make sense, but maybe make them at least manually craftable? Afterall irl you'd be able to layer soft materials like this in different thicknesses.
I just hope we could see these at some point in the game.
