... without additional nodes, for example through coloured layers? It also works with the compasses, if I understood it correctly. The white posters are sometimes really too white. I would like to have other shades as well.

Actually better example is yl_dice mod (since compass is just an item).

Here are the signs changed from param2 facedir to colorfacedir and using my palette from dice mod:

I think colors should be tweaked too look more paper-like, I guess? Any suggestions? (just post pictures of colors that you think will look better)

Any ideas how to craft them? (I made recipes like "poster + dye" (brown for wood, etc))

(also not sure about slightly yellowed paper and green one... any better ideas for useful colors?)

Do we want this for 1.1.127?
I think I finished this, only was not sure about colors, but if no one has better suggestions, then this is QA ready.
