this proposal reminds me of sine if luk3yx's cloaking mod, which is not a way of hiding arbitrary player names, but an admin tool for hiding admin presence when you're spying on people. however, if we want to go through the motions of hiding certain player names, it's got a lot of similar code we could copy.
