For wood logs, they turn into charcoals.
For wooden planks, they drop as they are.
This is intended. Vote wont fix

Lava pickaxe does what the furnace does. Woodplanks cannot be processed in the furnace, so they do not get changed. Wood trunks can be processed to charcoal in the furnace.

Means, it's ok atm. If you want things changed though, please poke me or submit another bug and say what you think should change

if/when alchemy is ever a thing, perhaps smelting (and thus also lava-picking) wooden planks would produce ash, which could be used for various things.
