Mercenaries are intended to be NPCs which can be hired by players.

If you want to take money for fighting, then be a warrior and offer your services for gold :)

More loot doesn't have much to do with being a mercenary though. More loot could be a rogue magic spell or a warrior aura.

In my opinion, there is already enough hack and slash in this game. With the upcoming updates, more is planned in this direction. If I understood correctly, it's not about loot, it's about player cooperation and an even more exciting interaction of all game elements. I find this good. I don't like killing for loot. Mercenaries still exist in RL today. Not every aspect of reality has to be reflected in the game.

mercenary is more a job than a class/role. you can have mercenary rogues and wizards too :)
