Delete Branch "%!s(<nil>)"
Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?
Me and visibleobject2 both individually managed to glitch inside what must be the rogue guild in the Haven sewers by digging a 1-block layer of protected mossy cobblestone by mining the wall while running towards it by holding "E". The blocks remained, but in the second before they returned and the protection message showed up we'd be able to move toward the other side and stay there. This could pose serious problems in other areas or bases with such protection.
we've tried tuning this a bunch of times. it's hard to find a sweet-spot where players are turned around/damaged/teleported that won't cause problems when they accidentally break a node in a protected area. some tools break things incredibly quickly, leaving the player little time to react if it's an accident.
I'm pretty sure someone reported a similar issue to this already, and as flux implied it's hard to find a sweet spot to find a solution to this
We'll always have to rely on players being decent people to some extent because the 'balance' needs to error on the side of safety for innocent players. This is a social issue, not really a software bug at this point.
note to self: it might be reasonable to have two different hystereses, one for short-term (10 second) repercussions, and another for longer term (5-10 minutes?). the longer term mechanic would be to discourage players from trying to find hacks like this. i am doubtful that this was discovered without testing things empirically.
There could be different penalty for accidentally cutting a passable block like leaves or grass (close to none) and different for solid blocks (although it still would be hard to have rule not punish accidents and at same time prevent glitching through thin wall). Sometimes, especially undreground, the protection starts suddenly and without warning
yeah, more than one player died because they didn't realize they were digging into protected area during a lag spike, which is why the rules were relaxed somewhat.
