Unfortunately, I can only confirm this. No snakes in the snake pits. :(
I see balancing problems coming when there are no more snakes and voice continues to be so active.
Potions are quite helpful for eliminating foci.
Is it possible to install a hotfix?
It wasn't particulary funny to obtain snakes before. In the distant past they were far more willing to spawn. Waiting for one to show up isn't exactly...exiting. If that got even worse, then that's definitely bad.
I don't see why snakes couldn't appear more often in normal deserts or even savannah. The inv potion is already expensive with the mithril lump and the electrumese powder.
Today I was wandering through some Savanna Biome and found a snake. I observed the nearby lake where no snake spawned, but about 10 or 15 Minutes late another one appeared land based.
Considering you need 3 snakes for one potion they spawn much to rarely
Please bring back the snakes....
I think we have enough confirmation that it's a bug. Snakes on land seem to still exist but are extremly rare.
This is absolutely a bug because snakes really don't spawn as often anymore, land or sea
Just had a look on testserver. It's also quite snakeless
Snakes and beavers were registered in the wrong or nonexisting biomes.
They still do not appear in Savanah lakes where they did before.
Have they been aasigned to another biome?
Upstream disabled them spawning in water. I don't know why, but I suspect they have some reason
That makes them extremely rare now.
And so are Invisibility potions.
I caught two snakes since update and that was by accident. When I was trying to find some in the same biome, none of them spawned.
If we cannot change that, maybe we can change recipe for invisibility potions?
I can confirm Murmels' experience. I havn't found any yet either while looking for them in a long time.
It's very bad if things get rarer than before. People who started earlier have an advantage - if they collected/crafted crazy amounts of the thing that became rare while it was still possible to get those things. I don't think that's good for a server.
We need obtainable invisibility potions. They weren't exactly cheap before either.
They were added to a lot more biomes and I'll look into water snakes, too. There is now also logging that allows us to see how many snakes spawn and where they do that.
if upstream fixed snakes spawning in water w/out fixing their spawn rate on land, i'd certainly consider that a bug. for reference, once spawnit (#4592), there won't be water snakes anymore, but they'll spawn in deserts, savannas, and jungles just fine.
On the test server, snakes ought to spawn in water again. The time interval at which the snakes decide about showing up has been decreased there considerably for testing. Without that they show up reluctantly. But they do show up.
Snake spawning in water was commented out. I assume the dev forgot to re-enable it after testing.
The names of biomes had to be adjusted for water spawning. That's normal for our slightly uncommon biomes.
Feel free to test on the test server on port 30001.
I'm in favour of letting spawnit handle all our spawn. If spawnit can't spawn water snakes, then I#d prefer there be no water snakes for the sake of simplicity and a unified approach to spawning.
spawnit can certainly do water snakes, but i considered that to be a bug and not a feature. if people want snakes to spawn in water, i can certainly add that again.
I can live with snakes not spawning in water as long as they spawn normally on land in deserts, savannah and jungle as they seem to be correctly doing now.
And I would love to have them in the water again.
If spawnit has no issues spawning them in the water, then let's have water snakes again.
I have been hunting snake with betzi yesterday and we found 6 sankes (everytim in paisr of two) after a shor time.
Then for quite a while nothing happened in the area we were hunting.
After betzi left I had a stroll along the neighbouring parts of the same biome and found another two snakes again in a short time.
I had same experience when hunting in other places: In the first minutes I found snakes (but when hunting alone only one appeared at the same time) and after a while no more new snakes appeared. Is there a timer preventing snakes from spawning for a while when some have been caught in an area?
And does the number of snakes depend on the people in the area?
enabled water spawning snakes in yl_spawnit:
f72688b3a1Pium has shown me a place where snakes spawn almost like before. It's a sandstone desert biome.
QA
spawnit has water snakes now :)
