tinkers' construct was a fantastic medieval-compatible mod for minecraft, probably in my top-10 all-time favorite minecraft mods. it allowed you to construct tools and weapons out of component parts, generally a handle, the tool head (e.g. an axe head or a sword blade), and a "binding" which held the other parts together. this allowed you to create very customized tools w/ different digging speeds and durabilities.
the main "machine" was a smeltery - a big multiblock structure that you threw ores into. ores would then melt into molten ore, and the size of the structure determined how much molten ore it could contain. the smeltery was powered by lava - smelting ore consumed some fraction of a bucket of lava, and the structure had storage tanks that could hold various amounts of lava. once ores were melted, they could be poured into casts, which corresponded to tool parts (or ingots).
there was also another special "machine" that allowed you to cut tool pieces out of wood, stone, etc. for tools that weren't made out of metal.
i haven't tested this mod at all. it looks abandoned. but if it's remotely functional, or even if the graphics resources and models can be extracted, i'd be quite excited to adapt it for use on your-land, if the others like the idea and approve.
the tinkers' construct was also an "ore doubling" mechanic, meaning that you got 2 ingots worth of material for every 1 ore node you threw in. i'm not sure whether this mod currently incorporates that mechanic, and i'm not sure we'd want it if it does. that's entirely separate from the general mechanic, though.
I guess the ore doubling would have similar effects as technic grinder ... if you grind ores before smelting, you get double yield (2 dust for 1 lump), but you can do this only once per every lump (as there is no way to turn dust or ingot back to lump), so you can't multiply ores infinitely.
after testing, it seems mostly non-functional (doing most things seems to crash it), so it'd require a lot of work.
mh strange, I was curious and gave it a try and it worked without any crash or even any error in debug.txt
Too bad the wiki seems to be gone and there seems to be no other documentation except the speedrun video https://youtu.be/90JlUeTffwE
The ore ingot doubling is there too, melt 1 ore -> collect with florb -> cast 2 ingots
Looks interesting but currently it would propably just confuse players by adding alot new tools to the already existing ones with a complete new seperate mechanic without any good documentation.
But would be a nice mechanic for coming classes/enchantments
Sounds a bit like an alchemist class :P
Not alchemist but blacksmith work, would fit for a builder/dwarf/etc class
Unfortunately the mod looks ancient. Maybe we can revive it?
