Who would be able to use such a thing and for what?
this is certainly a reasonable request, but i don't think Alias will agree to it. dynamite mining could be a more reasonable strategy than it is currently. right now, it's just a waste of resources. allowing larger TNT explosions could be tempered by only allowing them far below the surface, but there's plenty of below-ground builds that might be affected by such a mechanic.
I'm in for the idea, but I only suggest that it be restricted to extremely deep mining. Personally, I think this hypertnt should only be available for use in sections of the map where balrogs can spawn (because few people should be basing in those areas)
In my country you need a https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bef%C3%A4higungsschein to use it and its not easy to get this paper. I am not sure how it was in the medieval ;)
In tuneller's abyss there are nuclear bombs that can (if you detonate it properly) explode with radius of about 50 nodes - quite a large crater. The nukes are restricted to work only below certain depth (can't remember exactly, but the upper limit is I think somewhere between -150 and -500, so not that super-deep)
There are few craters in the mines here and there, but otherwise it seems that it is not really overused (it is not really usable for mining there, as the blast actually destroys most of the resources). Sometimes it is used to create an initial cavern in which you then build your underground base
The bombs respect protection, so if you blow up a nuke next to someone else's base, the survives intact :)
So I don't think this will cause any major problems or make large parts of map unusable and devastated if some proper rules are added and (technically) enforced.
If it fits lore/style ... that is another issue.
We already have tnt. All you really gotta do to get more BOOM is add more black powder, and make sure it stays compressed in a confined space.
I wouldn't think it would be too hard for people in medieval times to do that, If they knew what to do.
noting that packing a bunch of tnt nodes in a region will result in a larger explosion, up to a point. it checks a 5x5x5 cube centered around the tnt that's exploding (making this tricky to exploit fully, as you'll have to dig a hole, light the center tnt, get out, and replace some tnt). additional tnt nodes within the explosion radius will generally be lit and given some momentum.
Do you think if this item is added it should work in the nether?
I think it would be overly powerful for clearing areas to farm mobs but then again it definetly fits with the anarchic style of the nether
nether is not deep, nether is way above 0 ;)
I am well aware of that however the doesn't mean a whole lot, what does though is that the nether is inherently chaotic and it would make sense it is enabled in those areas given there aren't supposed to be safe areas in the nether
