Kalek reports a bug:

I want chains to be rotatable so you can use them in a horizontal way - there is no block else that could be used like a chain in this way...

this is actually something that i've wanted as well, and it's probably as easy as just changing paramtype2 on the appropriate nodes. however, some testing needs to be done to ensure such sideways chains don't act weirdly.
