the house looks nice, but i'm not sure i want to encourage them to encroach on the ocean more:
Well, expanding inlands is not possible, as that would get me closer than 150 nodes to other people ... so the only way is towards the ocean.
But I plan to do any further expansion downwards by building more floors in the basement and not take more of the ocean.
I can fix the coast by some landfill in order to make it look more natural if you think it would help (extending the land a slight bit at cost of taking a bit more ocean)?
I managed to fix it in the meantime, but maybe the ocean-build-detection is too sensitive. In the past it also triggered when building roof over an open irrigation canal and there may be other legitimate uses for small-scale "ocean building", like putting up a small wooden pier.
i certainly admit it's far from perfect
usually a player will request the ocean builder priv, and we'll evaluate the proposal and often grant it. as long as your build doesn't end up like the one in #3708, i think it'd be reasonable to grant the priv. you seem to understand the reason for the restriction.
I granted ocean_builder to the player :)
