@daydream most untamed petz can only live at "sensible" y elevations, to prevent them from spawning in the mines. encountering wild camels in caverealms was a long-standing issue.
probably newly spawned petz should note that they don't need to despawn under those rules, as opposed to ancient petz that spawned naturally. but allowing farming petz deep underground isn't a huge priority.
i think most petz can spawn between -100 and +5000, ish?
The conflict is not about natural spawn. Duckies should still not spawn at lower than y = -100 (or the value it is set to now). This is about creating a ducky farm in the deep, which is a deliberate action and should be possible. Same goes for pony-breeding in a dwarven city or similar.
i think baby ponies at least get marked as being owned by the same player as the parents? duckies are trickier as they don't have obvious parents.
