personally i dislike the "some trees only grow on some dirt" mechanic. it's too obscure. the exception being palm trees requiring sand instead.
I do like certain trees and other plants only frow on certain dirts, but noone knows which and there's also no way to find out except test every combination or look at some non-existing tutorial. As soon as there's a tutorial though, there's no point in having different dirt types.
This is my next task, before I was testing the behaviour of flower cow on different biomes (will make in detail report soon).
I'm exploring every part of the world and testing various things (except nether world 😲 😢 ).
Just as you always have to grow garden plants on irrigated soil, you have to plant trees on normal dirt and palm trees on sand. Once you know that, it's not a problem.
