we turned off tamagotchi mode? the dreamcatcher seems present?
We did turn off tamagotchi mode premateruly to the delivery of 1.1.116, but the dreamcatcher seems unaffected. It's present ingame and I can apply it to animals
animals I applied it to now longer show that it is applied... I will try to reapply and see if it shows up.
right, alias pointed that out to me yesterday, but i didn't update here. do mobs even need a dreamcatcher in non-tamogachi-mode?
Yes for sure. The Petz need it for protection from other players, like the time a newbie killed a horse I was actually riding at the time... right out from under me.
The tamagotchi turned off only prevents the disappearance of petz that were fed and brushed, yet lost happiness until they disappeared anyway.
Either the food or I suspect the brushing did not register or suddenly lost value, not sure - but the animals would do a couple of things after their happiness would suddenly reach 0% one was drop their name and stay and re-show the nametag if fed (even tho tamagotchi status said "fed" in green all along) or straight up disappear, which one of my ponies did and I even found the horseshoes just spinning there.
In both cases the petz lost their dreamcatchers (well I lost it too... as it wasn't returned or left spinning)
Mobs animals have protection runes that also don't seem to do their job, although I haven't played with them enough to explain it yet, some players have complained that their runes didn't do the job as advertised... but this is just a petz matter at this point.
From what I can tell, the pet that didn't show a dreamcatcher for me had lost it during it's last 0% happiness episode which I had been present to witness and "brought it back" with food that time but didn't realize the dreamcatcher disappeared during the incident.
The food only brought the nametag back (or my ownership really) it did not bring the happiness up and that pet would probably have disappeared if I stayed near as proximity for a few hours is very much part of the trigger for these petz disappearing.
@AliasAlreadyTaken which commit of petz is running on the server? i'm not having luck replicating this (dreamcatchers disappearing after turning off tamagochi_mode) in singleplayer.
daydream: poor reliability has been a longstanding problem w/ all existing minetest mobs that i've used. it's one of my main goals w/ the mob framework i'm working on.
We're running 5ac142ac41aeb012bae376350eb0d426ca6a3e0d
The only thing that changed toward this commit is in user.conf:
tamagochi_mode = false
so, i've just confirmed that my in-game kitten, who's been wandering around my in-game "office" on the main server for about a month, still has her dreamcatcher. i'm not sure why i didn't think to do that earlier. i'm not sure i've got any other tamed animals that don't belong to LadyPyle, that have protection on them, but I'm looking...
@daydream it's gotta be something odd about your animals. i know your memory isn't great, but what exactly happened? were the affected animals wandering, or stored as items in inventory, when the update happened? which species of animals specifically? (i tested kitties and ponies on my single-player server). are you certain that these specific animals had protection runes on them? is it possible some other player may have messed w/them somehow (i.e. were they publicly accessible)?
Coco lost her dreamcatcher right before the change to false... all good now.
Just to note also: players still need to FEED their animals, but it works and their health goes back up.
The glitched part of tamagotchi involved the brushed part I think only... we shall see! It might also be the case that the red food bowls only worked in tamagotchi mode... cuz I don't remember having to feed them when it was =true but now I do need to - unless Twilight was just hungry from before... needs more testing...
