Ambience is nice, when ambience sounds fit the ambience. There is code that ties certain sounds to certain blocks.
Maybe we should add logging to the ambience mod to see when which and why sounds play.
Eventually players reported explosion sounds startling them or similar - that's bad.
i don't think ambiance just picks random sounds - everything has to have a trigger, though some triggers are based on the environment of a player, and some are global. i don't remember ever hearing explosions through it.
i recently added a bunch of terrible dog noises to the balrog. i would love some of those to become part of ambiance eventually, but not all of them.
what i'm proposing is a staff command to toggle a message that alerts a listener as to what the trigger was for a particular ambiance sound to play. once i understand why it's weird, i can come up w/ ways to make it saner.
probably i should just add something like my outdoor detector from futil into ambience
