the question is, do pies take too long, or is everything else too quick? or should it stay the way it is?
Most likely the "iron" cook time is a game-y decision, while the pie cook time is a semi-realistic decision comapred to one ingame day being 20 minutes.
scaling this stuff is ... never going to be realistic. if an steel ingot is 1/9 of a cubic meter of steel, it weighs about 875 kg. a pie weighs about 2 kg. it takes a lot more heat to break down iron ore than it does to bake a pie.
if 2kg of pie takes 10x as long to cook as 875kg of iron, the universe is hugely out of whack. we should try to come up w/ heuristics about the cost of these things, and adjust the existing times. possibly, we need to implement multiple "cooking" mechanics.
