Even though Alias likes to say, Your Land only has one rule, this isn't exactly true. While you can go play in YL without ever coming across more than this one rule, as soon as you use a certain service you are subject to its rules.

  • If you harvest from the public farm, you must replant.

  • If you harvest from the public tree farm, you must replant.

  • If you harvest from the public tree farm, you must chop the whole tree.

  • Do not use the /announcement command or the bell for fun

  • Do /report PLAYER NAME if someone is not excellent towards you.

  • If you find a bug, do /bug MESSAGE and then stop abusing it yourself. If you need extensive repro, do it on the testserver.

  • Do not build "impossible" things like floating structures in the air or on the ocean. Ballons and Zeppelins in the air are ok, Ships and rafts on the ocean are ok.

  • Do not build closer than 300 to cities and closer than 150 to other people's areas unless you are invited.

  • The mesemaker rules

  • The city rules

  • Every city may have rules of their own.

  • Do not use alt accounts to go around limits like maximum areas or votes or quest rewards.

There are also behaviour suggestions:

  • If you come across something that is obviously wrong, do /bug

  • If you find ravaged area, do /bug and we'll clean it up

  • Do not bring anything into the nether or the arena which you are not prepared to lose

Suggestions welcome

  • do not destroy other players' builds, even if they are not protected.
  • do not ravage the landscape. if you must collect landscape resources from the surface, please try to find areas far from any settlements.
  • do not steal from other players, even if their stuff is not protected. abandoned bones are usually fair game, but it is generally not excellent to take from fellow warriors' bones during battles with the voice, or if the player is otherwise actively trying to get their bones back.
  • do not lure mobs out of the arena in haven, or otherwise lure mobs to kill AFK players.
  • do not kill mobs belonging to other players, if you can avoid it.
  • don't hack to get an unfair advantage over other players.
  • if you find a bug, please do not exploit it, and please report it via /bug.
  • when speaking in public chat,
    • don't spam - don't fill chat w/ repeated messages or meaningless messages.
    • don't YELL (all-caps), unless it's something incredibly important.
    • speak civilly to other players. avoid language which will make other players feel unsafe or unwelcome, including political statements.
    • as an exception to the above, nazis and other bigots are explicitly not welcome.

I really believed that if I wrote here, this would become a wiki page.

Nope, you need to create a new page here

Sounds reasonable. I entirely forgot about the wiki repository. The gitea wiki is less than stellar, we probably should not use it and search for an alternative.

Please add more suggestions what to do with the text or voice your opinion regarding one or more of those:

  1. We could add the text to the staff accessible wiki: https://gitea.your-land.de/your-land/administration/wiki ?

  2. We could start using this wiki, with the plan to make it available ingame somehow.

  3. We could put it into a book or poster ingame

  4. We could put it on the website

  5. We could create a full wiki (like wikipedia) and start using it

  6. We could create a faq entry and provide a link or description to where one can find the text.

  7. We could add it to the tutorial somewhere

Addition to

Do not build "impossible" things like floating structures in the air or on the ocean. Ballons and Zeppelins in the air are ok, Ships and rafts on the ocean are ok.

Seems like a couple more "realism" vs "Minetestism" suggestions are needed:

Also consider the underground and don't stack stonebrick skyscrapers on flimsy ice shelves, massive obsidian walls on sand or dirt.

Sure the gitea wiki is not a fully fledged wiki but it has its advantages.

  • its already up and running without adding more administration work.
  • easy & simple which makes it easy to transfer text between ingame <-> wiki
  • because gitea wiki pages are just textfiles it´s easy to backup
  • they also work as a git repo, so you can work locally with your favourite markdown/text editor instead of the builtin editor
  • it uses markdown which is also usable ingame with markdown2formspec

  3. We could put it on the website

you can get the content of gitea wiki pages through the gitea api.
get all wiki pages of a repo
get the content of a single wiki page in a repo

gitea wiki is not a fully fledged wiki but it has its advantages

i think i'm in favor of just using gitea wiki. it's been a decade or more since i've played around w/ setting up wikis, but back then, they were all terrible in at least one way. the fact that it's already integrated w/ the bugtracker is a plus.

the biggest issue w/ gitea is search. hopefully using elastisearch for the wikis would work as well as for the issues.
