Please do not hunt any whales before the coast of Walstrand
Same further south of Walstrand near Rubodyke.
Several cities like Maravillosa, Haven, Aveniture and Aqueron forbit the hunting of whales, and I don't see a reason to encourage players to hunt them. Scorpions volunteer and give much more meat. If there's a current shortage of scoprions, then that ought to be addressed, and not whale hunting beeing made more pleasant.
Do not worry, my whale hunting grounds are northwest of my base, more than 400 nodes from Walstrand and even further from any other cities.
Scorpion hunting has disadvantage of having very unstable supply. Sometimes you wander through desert while encountering none or very few specimens, sometimes they spawn in overwhelming numbers and hunting them becomes very dangerous. The desert stone natural scorpion habitat often has lot of cracks and holes and risk of falling into one of them when escaping the overwhelming scorpion swarm is great. Especially bad is this around Aveniture, with holes in sand being very frequent and often very deep.
One scorpion gives only about 4 raw meat pieces in average when killed. One whale gives more than 50.
Survival needs food and for carnivores that means killing other animals for it.
It is not a matter of hunting for pleasure, but for survival.
If #4414 gets fixed, the dietary preferences may change, but at the moment, hunting whales is the safest and reasonably fast way of obtaining food for werewolves.
It is very easy to build a scorpion farm. With their help, you soon have meat in abundance and the tedious hunt for whales then has no rational justification.
Do you know of existing scorpion farm design somewhere I could replicate?
Imo, players being against other players killing whales is just ridiculous. Is there only a limited amount of whales available or what is all the fuss about?
Some want to live in an underground city with purple domes and still others don't want to hunt whales in their city. I don't see any difference.
In the vicinity of Avienture are several farms. But I'm happy to show you mine too.
Firstly, that is a huge difference, lmao.
Secondly, I wasn't talking about whale killing next to cities. If people don't want that fine. But people in this issue are clearly advocating against whale killing at all which is, in my opinion, just ridiculous and in a way just unfair behaviour. Feels very judgemental - and we are talking about some pixels here.
I don't really understand why whales need to be made harder to kill, when many in the server already discourages it and it is already hard and tedious. I think the social fallout of doing so is punishment enough.
If you absolutely want to punish whale hunters, just have sharks spawn upon hits I guess ,since each hit will drop blood, and sharks hunt with blood, so more sharks.
