Sokomine reports a bug:

wine the receipes for the sparkling juice types need to be changed! there are traces of the original fruit in. that's not acceptable! the indigrents need to be: dye, sugar and water. still, the effort is too high. just placing the barrel next to a water source with 1 dye, a stack of sugar and a stack of glasses ought to be enough to produce a stack of sparkling juice (sarcasm off)

Can you elaborate on what really needs to change or what's the issue here? From first glance I couldn't tell apart what's wrong and what's wished for.

In general, the new formspec for the wine barrels looks much nicer, and the added sparkling fruit juices are a nice and welcomed idea.

Sadly there are 2-3 issues.

One is that those fruit juices are produced from 1-2 fruit, 1 sugar and a lot of water. Fruit juice ought to come from pressed fruits and be their juice, not sugar water with traces of fruit. Using one dye for color and the illusion of flavour plus sugar water would be more realistic for this receipe. Of course real fruit juice would also be great.

Then there are the glasses. Sure, it makes more sense to provide a glass if your output is a glass of something. Still, those liquids are not made to be filled into glasses immediately. They're barrels...barrels store the liquid until it's filled into bottles and then into glasses.

The main problem however is the amount of water needed. Buckets have to be filled with water (Haven is too slow to provide enough water from a renewable source for the amount needed), placed in the right slot and taken out afterwards. Each bucket of water yields only four glasses. So you constantly have to refill water. Considering that an average bucket may perhaps contain 10 l, and a glass 0.01-0.5 l (high-concentrated alcohol vs. beer), the final product would be very...water-like.

here's a concrete list of changes, based on what sokomine and some other players have asked for:

  • right-clicking a barrel w/ a filled bucket ought to put the contents in the barrel - shouldn't have to use the GUI
  • 1 bucket should be at least 9 drinks worth
  • integration w/ pipeworks - the actual fluid side of pipeworks. this might require actually implementing that code, which no-one has finished in a decade
  • integration w/ pipeworks, for item input/output
  • dedicated inventory slots for specific items - 2 ingredients, 1 for cups, 1 for fluid input
  • fluid input should grok (river) water sources
  • many recipes do not need water as an ingredient, and should reflect that. water is important for beer, vodka, rum, sake, bourbon, but not the others

That might definitely help a lot. It takes time to put the bucket in and take it out again. Which is very annoying. Right-clicking would solve that problem.

The easiest way would probably be to let each glass consume 1% instead of 5% of the liquid. Then 5 buckets would be enough to do one stack. Still too many buckets IMHO but probably easiest.

I've been wondering if the...half-barrel/tub from my cottages mod might be useful regarding beer and wine production.
