we've already got shelves

we've already got shelves

bigger chests got turned down before
drawer without upgrades has the same storage space as a default chest.
the biggest upgrades emerald/mithril would multiply that by 13.

without those upgrades the only benefit would be the sorting which can also be achieved with pipeworks.

Also follow up suggestions "please add MATERIALXYZ drawers" which would add 3 nodes per material against the node limit.

Some while back we tested storage drawers, they created terrible lag.

Also, much larger storage only moves the necessity to decide which item to keep and how to organize oneself into the future onto a bigger pile. I'd prefer to encourage players to find a storage system and organize themselves, before it becomes and insolvable mess.

most of the lag is from the entities. they're like smartshops that way. and player tend to love to stack huge numbers of them in one place, causing problems.

i'm not firmly against them, but if we use them

  • we should disable all the upgrades
  • we should modernize the entities to be less laggy
  • they're conceptually redundant w/ shelves?

I can't remember exactly, but IMO it was the routing of the items that caused issues on larger installations ( more than 100 drawers?)

hm. i remember something about that on tunnelers' abyss, but i also had a drawer system that was used to store huge quantities of individual chemical elements, there were not quite 100 drawers, but there were a lot.
