in testing, the tool started warning normally while digging through stone - i was able to dig 59 more stone after the tool started warning.

when digging nether basalt, it was able to dig 5 more after the start of warnings.

the current settings are to start warning 8 seconds before the tool will break.

if there's a lag spike larger than 8 seconds, there's not much we can do.

the solution to this is either:

fix lag
do something to stop tools from disappearing completely when they "break" (e.g. remove all the item's toolcaps until it is repaired)
increase the warning time a bit (though players get annoyed when other tools start warning when they start warning at more than half health, see e.g. #1987, #1437, #1387)
