no precise reason, I just feel they're strangely short atm (on all minetest servers, not just this one). 15-20 min cycles would feel more natural imho.

Those are my ideas on that topic:

  1. We could hold a vote among players and staff

  2. Those are the settings that govern the day/night cycle


#    Controls length of day/night cycle.
#    Examples:
#    72 = 20min, 360 = 4min, 1 = 24hour, 0 = day/night/whatever stays unchanged.

# time_speed = 72

We're on default, so each night is 10 minutes and each day is 10 minutes, too.

  1. Wasn't it suggested once that days would last 15 minutes and nights 5 minutes?

I'm in favor of 1 and 3. The issue lies with lighting engine, since its so bad you can't really do anything interesting with night cycles. you just... see less, that's all. its not even spooky or athmospheric.

Since the advent of the time mechanics the orbs of light offer, one can skip about every second night, effectively halfing nighttime.

I had thought of making night pass faster, but that might interfere with quest timing, where nighttime is a valuable ressource.
