Checked - I did not find a cobble crossbar, but a castle_masonry:pillar_cobble_crossbrace and "":pillar_cobble_extended crossbrace
the first of two indeed has a recipe close to the one for default:gravel, but it is not exactly the same recipe(not the same configuration in the crafting grid), also gravel can be crafted with three other recipes using different materials, so there never is a situation where one crafting recipe completely suppresses/overrides the crafting recipe of the other items in question.
Cannot recreate the bug.
