Actually, any node. Even if it's protected.

This is a bug in tnt.boom, I believe. I'll look into what I can do to fix it.

Oh, we're overriding the entire tnt mod at this point, guess the fix should go there.

So everybody who ever used it either didn't test, didn't care or thought the error was on his side and kept using it.

Bugfixing is meant to break compat, if the fix makes it more correct.

If we don't want to break compatibility, maybe we need a second function tnt.non_botched_boom
